It’s time to celebrate Midsummer

Midsummer in Finland, known as “Juhannus,” is a major celebration marking the summer solstice, typically observed on a weekend close to June 24th. It is celebrated with bonfires, known as “kokko,” often lit by lakesides. Many Finns retreat to their summer cottages, enjoy the sauna, and swim in lakes. Traditional foods include new potatoes, fresh fish, and various grilled dishes. The festivities often involve singing, dancing, and enjoying nature. Juhannus also has a historical connection to fertility rites and folk traditions, with some people still practicing ancient customs like flower picking and midsummer magic for love and luck.
