The purpose of air & gas purging and dosing

Low-flow purging and dosing of air and other gases is one of the most traditional applications for Kytola variable area (VA) flow meters. They are an ideal choice for these duties, offering clear visual flow indication and precise flow adjustment via an integrated needle valve that also enables flow rate adjustment.

Variable area flow meters operate without external power, making installation simple and flexible. Kytola’s expertise in sizing each meter to exact process parameters ensures accurate performance and reliable operation.

Most common industrial applications

  • Instrument air purge
    Clean air or nitrogen is continuously purged at low flow to instruments, optical devices, and electronic cabinets to ensure reliable operation, maintain clear visibility, and provide cooling through constant ventilation.
  • Gas flow dosing in emission analyzers
    In Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS), precise flow control is required for sample gases such as O₂, SO₂, and NOx, as well as for calibration, span, and zero gas lines. Kytola variable area flow meters enable easy adjustment with a needle valve and instant visual flow indication.
  • Protective or blanket gas dosing
    Inert gases such as nitrogen or argon are used in heat treatment, welding, and similar processes to prevent oxidation. Variable area flow meters provide robust construction, simple adjustment, and optional low-flow alarms for remote monitoring.
  • Oxygen or air dosing in RAS aquaculture systems
    In recirculating aquaculture systems, air or oxygen is dosed into water to maintain optimal conditions for fish growth. VA flow meters ensure accurate gas distribution from control panels to tanks.
  • Final product dosing in O₂, O₃, and N₂ generators
