Better water quality control

  • Verify stable circulation flow through tanks and loops
  • Support predictable filtration performance (drum filters, biofilters, degassing)
  • Reduce risk of water quality drift affecting welfare

Higher operational reliability

  • Detect abnormal flow conditions early (blockage, pump performance loss, fouling)
  • Improve system stability in 24/7 continuous operation
  • Reduce unexpected shutdowns and fish stress events

Smarter resource use

  • Optimize use of oxygen, chemicals, and water by controlling flow more accurately
  • Reduce waste caused by unstable dosing or inconsistent circulation
  • Support cost-efficient operation without added complexity

Kytola in aquaculture

Kytola Instruments’ flow meters play a vital role across aquaculture systems, wherever stable, visible, and low-maintenance flow measurement is required. Reliable flow control is essential for maintaining optimal water quality, safeguarding fish health, and ensuring uninterrupted operation of critical processes.

From water circulation and oxygenation to chemical dosing and filtration, Kytola flow meters provide clear, accurate flow indication that operators can trust. Their robust construction and simple operating principle make them well suited for the demanding conditions typical of aquaculture environments, where reliability and ease of use are key.

By delivering consistent performance with minimal maintenance, Kytola flow meters help improve equipment reliability, reduce downtime, and support efficient, sustainable aquaculture operations.

Air or gas purging

ytola flow meters are used to monitor and control oxygen levels in closed-system breeding tanks, basins, and transportation tanks. Supplying oxygen to these systems is essential for keeping fish alive, and precise oxygen control helps optimize fish growth and feed efficiency. In addition, improved oxygenation enhances water quality by supporting the oxidation of feed residues.

In open-system aquaculture farms, Kytola flow meters are applied in net pen and cage aeration systems. Aeration increases oxygen levels, particularly during warm periods, while water circulation improves overall water quality, helping to prevent algae growth and reduce the risk of fish diseases.

Kytola variable area flow meters offer following benefits for these applications:

  • Customized for your process parameters
Kytola experts configure each flow meter according to your specific application. The measured medium, operating pressure, and temperature are carefully considered to ensure accurate flow measurement.

  • Designed to match your system layout
Flow meters are often installed within enclosed brackets in aquaculture systems. Kytola offers a wide selection of models, fittings, and configurations from single to multiple flow tubes to ensure seamless integration into your equipment design.

  • Oxygen cleaning for plug-and-play installation
Kytola flow meters intended for oxygen service are professionally cleaned and sealed, allowing safe, reliable, and ready-to-use installation.

Water and other auxilary equipments measurements

Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS) consist of multiple tanks and auxiliary equipment where accurate balancing and distribution of water flow are critical. Kytola variable area flow meters provide a cost-effective solution for monitoring water flows across a wide range of installation points and pipe sizes. When equipped with 4–20 mA output, flow data can also be remotely monitored, allowing operators to oversee water distribution throughout the system.

Transporting live fish is an essential part of aquaculture operations, and oxygen flow must be carefully controlled during transport in lorries. Kytola flow meters are commonly used for this purpose, as models with multiple flow tubes and integrated flow adjustment valves allow drivers to easily regulate oxygen supply to several transport tanks directly from the cabin.

Fish health is a top priority in RAS operations, where maintaining high water quality helps prevent disease. Ozone is widely used in RAS systems to oxidize organic matter and reduce pathogens. Ozone generators produce ozone from oxygen and inject it into a controlled side stream, after which by-products are removed and residual ozone is fully destroyed before the water returns to the fish tanks. When properly controlled, this process improves water quality without harming fish.

Kytola variable area flow meters are well suited for ozone applications, offering a reliable and user-friendly solution for monitoring and controlling ozone flow.
