Why invest in Kytola seal water control?

Maximize the lifetime of your seals

Most reliable seal water flow meter with structure designed for harshest environment. Alarms and output options for real time monitoring of the seal status.

Save up to 80%

Reduce water and energy consumption with SLM by 80% compared to uncontrolled flow. Typical payback time for investing in Kytola seal flow meters is less than 3 weeks.

Compatible with all seal types

Modular structure enables exactly right solution for all different seal types from one source Kytola Instruments. See all diffferent seal types.

The purpose of seal water

Most pumps, agitators, refiners, screens etc. with shaft seals require an uninterrupted sealing water flow to ensure proper function of the seal.
The purpose of seal water is to:

  • Cool the seal
  • Lubricate the seal
  • Prevent the process media from entering the seal chamber

Also the seal condition can be determined by proper monitoring of the seal water flow and pressure.

Boost efficiency with intelligent seal water monitoring

Often the seal water flow to the seal is not monitored, or a flow indicator is used to indicate the existence of flow without giving any indication of the flow volume. Under these uncontrolled situations the flow to the seal is usually considerably higher than required for optimum function of the seal.

When a Kytola SLM seal water flow meter is installed to monitor and regulate the water flow to the seal, it results in reduced water consumption and wastewater load.

When single, mechanical seals or stuffing box packings are used, the seal water flows into the process. Often this water has to be evaporated or warmed up to the process temperature. When sealing water flow can be set to the optimum it results in considerable energy savings up to 80%.

By monitoring the seal water flow and pressure, the seals lasts longer and maintenance activities can be planned beforehand. Also with the new SLM Smart flow meter with 4-20 mA outputs of flow and pressure possible seal leakages can be detected in their early stages before seal failures and costly downtime hit the process.

How pressure and flow variations indicate seal water issues

A. The pressure decreases and the flow increases

  • The seal leaks either to the process or to the outside

B. The pressure increases and the flow decreases

  • The outlet side of the pressuring valve is clogged

C. The pressure and the flow decreases

  • The supply water pressure to the SLM has decreased of the flow adjustment valve is clogged

D. The pressure and the flow increases

  • The supply water pressure has increased

Remote readability with Kytola Smart

Remote readability with Kytola Smart

Kytola flow meters are known for reliability and built-in quality. This comes from understanding the customer processes where trouble free operation without downtime is the essence. With this philosophy we came up with unique solution to markets by brining out SLM Smart flow meter with 4-20mA outputs for both flow and pressure.

SLM Smart has especially been developed especially for critical seals where possible seal failure would be crucial for the process operation, cause safety issues and contaminate the pumped media.

The Kytola SLM Smart is applicable to numerous industries such as pulp & paper, mining, food and beverage, chemical etc.

It’s the only seal water meter on the market that delivers real-time monitoring of both seal water flow and pressure, giving early indication of developing seal failures.
